Climate Investment Funds: Scaling Up Just Energy Transitions to Enable Industry Decarbonization

The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) will convene ministers at COP28 Finance Day (4 December) to discuss the importance of supporting energy transitions through decarbonizing industry, which involves both reducing emissions in hard-to-abate, heavy emitting sectors and developing of green supply chains to help address the growing demand for clean technologies. Particularly, the event will feature the potential of CIF’s proven programmatic model to support MDBs, governments and the private sector in unlocking investments for in multiple high-emitting, hard-to-abate industry sectors and green supply chains in developing countries, as part of a just and equitable transition. The event will showcase the financial commitments made by contributor countries and innovative finance mechanisms that have the potential to mobilize private capital and raise the volume of much-needed concessional climate finance.
