Carbon Accounting For Humanitarian Actors

5 Dec

10:00-11:30 GST

Offices of the globally active ADRA network (Adventist Development and Relief Agency), which provides support in over 118 countries, have built valuable expertise in carbon accounting over the years. The communities we support, our staff and partners have had a front row seat to witnessing and responding to climate change disasters and building sustainable livelihoods in areas where climate change negatively affects communities. At the same time, some of our own practices fuel the climate crisis. No uniform system exists for humanitarian and development organizations to measure their carbon footprints. Logistics and mobility, shelters, packaging, and waste management are some of the carbon intensive areas. Everyone needs to take responsibility and reduce where possible - including smaller to mid-sized offices and organizations.
