Prospects for Cooperation in Energy Transition for a Sustainable Future: GCC, Turkey, and Regional Perspectives
TRENDS Research & Advisory and the Atlantic Council in Turkey will hold a (90 Minutes) event to launch a joint report titled “Prospects for Cooperation in Energy Transition for a Sustainable Future: GCC, Turkey, and Regional Perspectives”.
The report explores prospects for partnership between Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and Turkey to accelerate energy transition and renewables deployment. Contributors to the report are experts on climate change challenges, policy planning, and geopolitics of energy security.
The objective of the report is to diagnose the current state of renewables adoption in the GCC and Turkey, identify potential areas for cooperation in aligning net-zero emissions targets, and produce a set of policy recommendations to accelerate the energy transition. The five areas identified for assessment are:
1) Industrial Transformation
2) Clean Transportation
3) Carbon Capture and Sequestration
4) Electrification
5) Circular Economy
The key focus is on phasing out fossil fuel emissions, while scaling up viable, affordable zero-carbon alternatives.
Policy recommendations in the report will advise stronger commitments to curb carbon emissions, expand financial help to manage the green transition, and develop multilateral approaches on regional climate governance in the Middle East.
