Energy networks of the future will be infrastructure intensive, carrying clean electricity from where it's generated to where it is used, sometimes at great distances. Electricity grids must therefore expand dramatically. Additionally, clean energy technologies such as hydrogen and carbon capture will need thousands of miles of pipeline for their respective transport to consumers and permanent storage sites. Are infrastructure requirements overlooked in energy transmission planning and policies? How can roadblocks such as permitting delays be navigated to facilitate clean energy infrastructure deployment?
