What Do People On The Frontlines Of The Climate Crisis Demand For A More Accountable Response?
For more than a decade, Ground Truth Solutions has been working with crisis-affected communities in more than 30 countries to systematically gather their feedback on the humanitarian aid and services they receive. The results are very similar across contexts- people impacted by crisis feel disempowered and think aid is missing the mark. With the climate crisis exacerbating humanitarian needs and the aid sector being confronted with scarce resources, it is paramount that aid is provided according to people’s needs, priorities, and preferences. This panel discussion will showcase thousands of people’s perceptions of climate adaptation programming in Bangladesh, and aid quality in highly complex and climate-vulnerable contexts including Chad, Haiti, Burkina Faso, Somalia, and Nigeria, as well as highlight their expectations and demands for a more accountable, just, sustainable, and effective response amidst the overlapping challenges of conflict and climate change. The panel will also focus on how humanitarian organizations like IFRC, and others are responding to these demands and ensuring the meaningful participation of affected communities across the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of aid programs.
