Climate Futures in Yemen: Towards a Coordinated National Response for Climate Action

9 Dec

16:00-17:30 GST

Yemen, one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change impacts, faces significant challenges in critical sectors, notably water and food security. Recent years have seen heavy rains, cyclones, flash floods, droughts, and rising temperatures, all profoundly affecting local livelihoods. Climate projections indicate that Yemen will grapple with mounting water scarcity, diminished agricultural productivity, and heightened food insecurity risks due to shifting climate patterns. However, the resources available to tackle these issues fall far short of actual needs, exacerbated by an ongoing conflict that hinders climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts. Years of conflict and a severe humanitarian crisis have diverted attention from Yemen's participation in crucial global climate discussions and access to climate finance.
