MULTILEVEL ACTION, URBANIZATION, AND BUILT ENVIRONMENT TRANSPORT

Buildings Breakthrough Official Launch:
Unlocking an Action-Oriented Response to the Global Stocktake

Organizers: COP28 Cities Team & France, Morocco

The launch of the Buildings Breakthrough is pivotal in accelerating systems transformation in the built environment. This event will launch the initiative that will unlock intergovernmental and multi-level collaboration as a solution for mitigation, climate change adaptation and resilience in the sector. The sector accounts for nearly 40% of global energy-related CO2 emissions and 50% of extracted materials and is responsible for one third of global waste. Moreover, the effects of climate change are increasingly causing severe impacts on buildings. The sector’s complex structure requires a coordinated response from National Governments to the Global Stocktake. The Buildings Breakthrough offers a platform for international cooperation to unlock the required action.
