Human Mobility and Displacement: Addressing the Impact of Climate Change on the Movement of People

Organizers Name: IOM, UNHCR, Global Mobility Centre, Office of the UN Special Advisor to the SG on Solutions to Internal Displacement

Worsening and more frequent extreme weather events and gradual shifts in the environment disrupt people’s lives and livelihoods all over the world. Some people will leave areas adversely affected by climate to find shelter, jobs, and opportunities, and to support those who stay behind. The action-oriented event will focus on national and regional initiatives to address the unprecedented levels of climate and disaster displacement, including the impacts of slow onset events and environmental degradation on human mobility.
