Exploring the Links Between Climate Change, Gender, Inequality, Conflict & Forced Displacement

Organizers: Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace & Security & Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research

Women are both frontline responders and disproportionately affected when climate impacts intensify humanitarian and security situations. Tellingly, women and girls frequently constitute over 80% of displaced persons in climate-affected, fragile zones. This event will showcase new financing approaches, policy reforms, and operational practices to invest in women and girls as agents of stability and economic recovery in climate-linked crisis settings, while also addressing gender-specific impacts, from malnutrition to sexual violence. As climate change intensifies, with a trajectory of over 200 million annually displaced persons in the coming decades, gender-sensitive strategies, programs, and financial allocations will be critical for adaptation, resilience, and addressing loss and damage.
